The Urbana Adult Education Center has provided educational and career services to residents of Champaign County and surrounding communities in East Central Illinois for over 50 years. The mission of the Office of Adult Education and Vocational Services (OAEVS) is to provide to all incarcerated inmates an educational assessment that will determine the inmate’s achievement level, mandated basic literacy programming in reading and math for inmates who are below the 6th grade level, special education services to those who qualify with an educational handicap, a GED. Adult Education offers instruction and programs for adults 16 years of age or older who are not enrolled (or required to be enrolled) in secondary school; do not have a secondary diploma (or its recognized equivalent); or are unable to speak, read or write the English language.
Basic adult education programs can assist people who are migrants or people who have never received a high school diploma. These programs are put in place to help adults prepare for postsecondary.
